Stem cells are the source of other cells, tissues and organs of the body.
Stem cells have two important characteristics that distinguish them from other cell types. The first of these is that they are unspecialized cells that renew themselvesindefinitely. The second is that under certain physiologic or experimental conditions,can be induced to become cells with special functions such as heart muscle cells orpancreas cells that produce insulin.
